About Del Corazon Hospice

Del Corazon Hospice has cared for people at home from Santa Fe since 2012. Nurses and aides build the plan around symptoms and around the people who are already looking after the person. The ZIP area is Bernalillo, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, and Santa Fe counties. That covers Santa Fe, Albuquerque, Española, and Las Vegas. Taos and Los Alamos are outside that list. Staff can speak with the family in Spanish, so questions and decisions do not have to go through a translator the family does not know. Bereavement counseling is available to the family after a death. Care can be in a house, an assisted living home, or a nursing home.

This was my first experience with using hospice and it was a bad experience from beginning to end. The first hospice nurse that was assigned was a no call no show and was combative about what I should expect from hospice service. She quit, then the next hospice nurse that took her place did not communicate effectively. He did not follow through with making sure my mother in laws anxiety medication was continually renewed. Therefore, my mother in law suffered from terminal agitation for three days. There is a list of bad mishaps that transpired throughout my interactions with hospice to mention here.

Initial meet up with providers was horrible first guy who showed up could not do a basic set of vitals. Showed up without medications they were going to pick up. Saying they could not because place was closed. The 20 min later second provider showed up with meds called and said she was not getting down to go outside and get them. Got to her vehicle and pot smoke came out looked like cheese and Chong. I get it's legal but j don't want my family's provider arriving hi unacceptable om both counts

my mom received exceptional care by the Delcorazon team earlier this year in June. Our social worker was Meaghan and our nurse was Amanda. They were very patient, kind and responsive to my moms needs which made this journey a bit easier. I would recommend them again.

Other important resources for families

Families often have questions beyond hospice care — estate planning, elder law, funeral planning, and more. Placements are limited and selective — we review applications and only accept organizations that meet our standards for this section. Listings are paid advertising, not recommendations or endorsements. Families review the information and choose professionals for themselves.
