When my dad found out he was terminally ill, his greatest fear was that the life he had lived—as a warrior in the civil rights and criminal defense world—would end in a slow, painful, and undignified way. Being new to New Mexico, I hadn’t realized the legal complexities surrounding end-of-life care for terminal patients. When the time came for him to move on, he set a record at Red Willow—it took just 10 minutes for him to pass. On his way out, he reassured me: "The movie does play," and that where he was headed was beautiful—just like the life he was leaving behind. I will never forget the extraordinary care and support Red Willow provided, both before and after his passing—not just for my father, but for our entire family.
