I just wanna take a moment to thank the hospice team for taking such great care of Phyllis. Audreana provided Phyllis with not only great care , but with compassion, comfort, understanding, and dignity. We will forever be thankful for the love and grace she showed our family during this difficult time.

The hospice team came into my dad’s hospital room to discuss what they can do to help. They knew he was going to a nursing home in Putnam county and they signed him up to visit him twice a week. They came to the nursing home when he moved there after a few days in the hospital. They made themselves sound so great. I signed the paperwork and the caseworker even came the next visit to introduce herself and told me I could contact them at ANYTIME with ANY Questions because they care about their patients. Left me pamphlets and booklets and again said “contact us anytime with any questions” this is my first time dealing with hospice directly so when I had a question after visiting my dad, I called them. I had to be vetted before I could even talk to a nurse. The nurse I talked to didn’t even see my dad. When I talked about the swelling in his hands and feet, the nurse I talked to on the phone told me “that’s what happens during the end of life” and I said I know that, I just want to make sure he’s comfortable. The nurse then said “well we can get someone there maybe tomorrow” which didn’t sound reassuring at all in the tone she said it. I then had called the caseworker about some of the paperwork about my dad and left a message and never got a call back. The nurse that did see my dad seemed nice but couldn’t understand anything she said because her phone had such bad service it was cutting out half the conversation. It was two days before my dad passed away I had the nursing home call me and asked if I wanted to switch to Putnam County hospice. I said I didn’t know I had a choice. I was dealing with mercy hospice for almost two weeks. The night before my dad passed-the nursing home said they called mercy hospice to come in and assess my dad and they told the nursing home “they didn’t want to drive that far” now why would you agree to sign my dad up knowing what nursing home he was going to and what county he was in. If it was too far to begin with, then why bother signing him up?! Putnam county hospice saw my dad for two days. And that was the most compassionate two days I had. They were listening to my concerns and had wonderful bedside manner and talked to me like I was a part of their family. I wish I would have known about the options in the beginning. When my dad passed away, mercy health didn’t even acknowledge that he passed. No phone call, no card, nothing. In the two weeks they were with my dad, I got zero acknowledgment! Putnam county hospice immediately sent their condolences. They knew my dad for two days. It goes to show you that Mercy health hospice doesn’t care. No bedside manner, no compassion at all! If you happen to be in putnam county, please do Putnam county hospice.

The worst experience . The communication was terrible . Felt like we had no support . Would definitely not recommend St Rita’s Hospice Care.
