I lost my pops in November 2024. I am one of 7 children, that do not all get along. It's hard enough to go through watching & waiting for your loved one to pass, but to watch a nurse console only a few, based upon what she was being told by these few, was not only heartbreaking but infuriating. She had no idea what was true & what wasn't. When in actuality there was fraud & abuse towards my pops by these 2. This nurse also told us we could not be with my pops as he was being taken out of the house, after he passed. Due to her behavior, I did not trust her, nor did I understand why we couldn't be there. So I defied her command, while all the others stood outside along the sidewalk, as instructed by the nurse. I am so thankful that I did. I was able to witness one of the most beautiful forms of respect as these 2 young men slowly brought the American flag across my father's body. (WWII vet) It was so heartwarming & peaceful & completely missed by the rest of the family. I apologized to the young men for staying, but felt the need to be there. They were shocked & couldn't believe no one else was there. I informed them of our instructions from the nurse & as they carried my pops out, they stopped & told the crowd they had every right to be in there & not to let anyone tell them otherwise. I was under the impression that hospice was there for the WHOLE family & not just a select few. The nurse stayed in the room with me & just glared at me. After it was over she gathered her things & as she was walking out the door she condensendly said "I will pray for you." Unbelievable & unforgivable behavior from a nurse at such a devastating time.
Upset and disappointed is an understatement. Currently sitting with my husbands aunt who has been actively dying for two days, completely on our own with no crisis care. We chose this one due to a great experience with hospice previously. Never again. If we were not this far along I would fire them in an instant. They do have some great, caring staff but the complete neglect of our family is astounding in our aunts greatest time of need. Please look elsewhere.
