This is Mr. Locklear. I really don’t know where to begin so I’ll just stick to the last week of my father’s life (July 7-12, 2025) under the care of this agency. During this time I was strongly encouraged (by his nurse) to administer morphine. This was supposedly for his “respiratory distress” which I’ve since learned was elevated but not critical. I agreed to the recommendation based upon the information I was provided at the time. The side effects (and consequences) of the morphine were never fully explained to me and since then it has been brought to my attention that the morphine may have been clinically unnecessary. This, in itself, is naturally very troubling. However, I will not know for sure until further evaluation of his medical history is completed by a medical authority. Is this review premature? Perhaps. But I do know that information was guarded and not fully disclosed. Information that may have led me to make different decisions in that last week. Would the immediate outcome have been different? Perhaps not but I’ll never know…..Nevertheless, it is the nurses duty to provide ALL relevant information. This is critical!

As a healthcare professional from another company, I’ve worked alongside many teams—and Ernest and Mahaly are truly special. They show up with warmth, patience, and a level of compassion that you can feel the moment they enter the room. They made the patient’s experience brighter and supported the family with kindness, respect, and grace. North Alabama Hospice leadership should be proud to have them—Ernest and Mahaly represent what hospice care is supposed to be. Families can trust that they will be treated with genuine care and dignity.

Families often have questions beyond hospice care — estate planning, elder law, funeral planning, and more. Placements are limited and selective — we review applications and only accept organizations that meet our standards for this section. Listings are paid advertising, not recommendations or endorsements. Families review the information and choose professionals for themselves.
