About Hospice of West Alabama
Hospice of West Alabama (HOWA) has been dedicated to caring for terminally ill patients and their families since 1982. As a community nonprofit, it operates the only free-standing hospice inpatient facility in West Alabama, known as the Helen H. Hahn House. This facility offers a warm, homelike environment where patients receive compassionate care from a team of over 80 professionals. Families can expect comprehensive support, including access to full-time social workers and chaplains, ensuring that physical, emotional, and spiritual needs are met. With a mission focused on enhancing the quality of life, HOWA has served more than 8,200 patients since the inpatient facility opened in 2004.

Helen H. Hahn House
Helen H. Hahn House is Hospice of West Alabama’s freestanding inpatient house on the Tuscaloosa VA campus, and the only freestanding hospice house in West Alabama. Families use it for a short stay when symptoms cannot be managed at home. Private rooms open toward patios, with family space inside and quiet grounds outside.

It's a nice place. My mom didn't get to stay long before she passed, but it was comforting to know they took good care of her.
Hospice of West Alabama took great care of my mom. She was on hospice at home for 4 months. The nurses and aids were great. No matter when you called them, and I called on them a lot, they were always friendly, compassionate and helpful. We were only at the inpatient facility for about 8 hours. But the care she received there was top notch. Beautiful facility.
