I had my mother with Vitas the past 7 months and just ended care with them due to a new policy to not do lab work for UTIs. The past 6 months they did labs as my mother gets a UTI almost every other month. Each time a different bacteria and Rx needed. I did not sacrifice my time and energy the past 2 years to have my mother pass of something preventable like a UTI! With their new policy they would just give an antibiotic without lab work and hope the symptoms would improve or I can contact our primary doctor to do lab work. This is unacceptable to me and probably a way for them to cut costs even though my mom's insurance paid them nearly $5k a month for once a week nurse visit to take vitals and give us diapers and wipes or cream when it was available (often not available). They do not provide gloves which is a universal precaution to protect both her and I when changing her. I gave 2 stars because the nurses that visited and the people in the office were professional and caring. I no longer can trust whatever management/person makes decisions of new policies that would negatively impact the health of my mother and thus I took her out of Vitas.

Families often have questions beyond hospice care — estate planning, elder law, funeral planning, and more. Placements are limited and selective — we review applications and only accept organizations that meet our standards for this section.
