About Archbold Hospice

Archbold Hospice is a nonprofit hospice in Thomasville. It serves patients and families in Brooks, Colquitt, Decatur, Grady, Mitchell, and Thomas counties, at home, in a nursing home, or in assisted living. The program opened in 1989. Until the July 2023 Archbold name refresh, families knew it as Hospice of Southwest Georgia. The office remains at 400 Old Albany Road in Thomasville, and the phone is (229) 584-5500. The team includes registered nurses, hospice aides, social workers, a chaplain, physicians, and volunteers. Services cover pain and symptom management, personal care, medical equipment, oxygen, supplies, and medicines related to the hospice diagnosis, plus caregiver teaching and spiritual support. Respite care is available so family caregivers can rest. When symptoms cannot be managed at home, short-term inpatient care is given at the John B. and Elizabeth V. Wight Inpatient Hospice Center inside Archbold Memorial. That center is part of the hospital. Bereavement support includes Camp HEAL, a free day camp for children ages 6 to 12, and Good Grief, a community support group.

Terrible experience. A nurse forced morphine under my mom’s tongue despite my family telling her no more. She lied and said it was a ordered as a standard order every two hours by the doctor and not as needed. Please find another place for your loved ones. I am forever traumatized watching what they did to my mom.

Families often have questions beyond hospice care — estate planning, elder law, funeral planning, and more. Placements are limited and selective — we review applications and only accept organizations that meet our standards for this section. Listings are paid advertising, not recommendations or endorsements. Families review the information and choose professionals for themselves.
