About Alamogordo Home Health Care & Hospice

Alamogordo Home Health Care & Hospice is based in Alamogordo and has cared for people at home since 1994. Registered nurses, hospice nurses, social workers, and volunteers visit to ease pain and to help the family with the day-to-day parts of a serious illness. Most of that care is in Otero County. This hospice also reports ZIPs in Lincoln County in a substantial way, and a smaller number of ZIPs in Chaves, Cibola, and Valencia counties. A family outside those counties needs a hospice that reports the home ZIP. The agency publishes a national quality ranking from Strategic Healthcare Programs and describes the work as comfort and support in a familiar place. Care is arranged around the person and the people looking after them, not around a clinic schedule.

I called for some advice/information regarding my 98 year old MIL. Donna was so kind to talk with me and clearly a very caring hospice nurse. If she is representative of this organization, I would not hesitate to have them care for my loved one.

I have been trying to get care from this agency for about 2 months and still have not had a caregiver. I have had promises to start next Monday and no one shows up and two caregivers have been scheduled for a meet and greet and both of those have canceled. When I called and spoke to the manager, Margaret Hernandez, she gave me a lot of excuses and lip service. While she shared with me the things she is dealing with I do have compassion for her as it is obvious other departments, upper management, and the owners are not providing her with the tools to attract, train, and retain quality caregivers. I don't know what is going on with this agency however with all the awards and five-star ratings they have gotten my assumption is they have had a change in upper management or ownership. It's either that or the reviews are fake and the awards are not really deserved. I have attempted to contact the owners of the agency to discuss my concerns. We will see if and how they respond.

Families often have questions beyond hospice care — estate planning, elder law, funeral planning, and more. Placements are limited and selective — we review applications and only accept organizations that meet our standards for this section. Listings are paid advertising, not recommendations or endorsements. Families review the information and choose professionals for themselves.
