Ohio's Hospice - Troy

My husband was brought there on Mar 12 in the evening. I got there around noon the next day. I asked one of the nurses how long before he passed. 2-3 days. He was in bed eyes half open & rolled back in his head & breathing wasn't normal. 2 nurses came in & rolled him on his side & wedged pillows behind his back. I'm not a trained hospice nurse but I knew something wasn't right. I went outside to meet my son. Came back in & nonchalantly the nurses said he had just passed. Her attitude towards the situation pissed me off. He may of just been another patient to her but he was loved by many. My question & complaint is...if the nurses are trained in hospice care why weren't they honest with us???? Like I said I knew something wasn't right, they did & kept quiet about it. That's exactly why I left one star

When my dad, Rick, went on hospice with Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County in October 2024, our family was going through the hardest moment of our lives. He was only in their care for about a day and a half before he passed, but in that short time they treated him with so much gentleness, dignity, and compassion. They also cared for us just as deeply. Making the decision to place someone you love on hospice is incredibly hard and filled with doubt. The team helped us feel that we were making the most loving choice for him and that he would be comfortable and truly cared for in his final hours. That reassurance meant everything to us. What has stayed with me just as much is how they cared for us after he died. They sent flowers and a sympathy card, and even remembered the anniversary of his death the following year. I have never experienced that kind of continued compassion from healthcare providers. As working in healthcare myself, it made me feel comforted to know there are still genuine people who care. It also showed us that Rick wasn’t just another patient to them — he was remembered and valued. Experiencing hospice through Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County honestly changed my life and how I see end-of-life care. I will always be grateful that my dad was in their hands. If you are facing this decision for someone you love, please know this team will care for both your person and your family with incredible kindness.💜

I have deep, overflowing gratitude for the excellent, compassionate care my mom received from all staff we encountered with Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County, as they cared for my mother through her cancer journey until her recent homegoing to heaven. From the wonderful outpatient case management given by nurse Liza B. RN, (&others) to all the wonderful staff at the Troy inpatient facility.(Dr.Luu, Eric VanFossen PA, Nurses Kyle, Donna, Christine, Deb, Meredith, and the wonderful patient care staff Tiffany, (and others whom I do not recall all their names, but I remember their precious faces) — each one treated my mom with honor, dignity, compassion, and respect. They helped the family navigate and understand the process through and through. All staff were so patient with our many questions, and were kind and loving. It was such a healing environment. Even when my mom passed, the two beautiful women that took care of cleaning her up and presenting her for family to come in and say their goodbyes, were such a godsend. The loving care they took — she looked so peaceful and they tastefully folded her hands around a vibrant living rose…. The sight made us gasp (with gratitude) when we entered the room. Mom looked so beautiful and peaceful lying there. again, as an RN myself, I cannot more highly proclaim my praise to each and every person we encountered. A wonderful organization filled with love, compassion, competence. Excellent all the way around! Thank you , thank you, thank you to all who took care of our mother. PS The Troy inpatient facility itself is gorgeous. The color scheme, the artwork on the walls, the room setup, each with outdoor patio, the family meeting areas… the free coffee, tea, cocoa …a refrigerator with fresh waters (and family can place meals in there if they’re staying.) Everything is set up to be very conducive for family to visit and experience a healing, peaceful atmosphere as they tend to their loved one.
