About Heart of Hospice

Heart of Hospice is the Fort Smith office families turn to when hospice care needs to happen at home. A nurse, an aide, and a social worker visit the house. They help with comfort, medicines, and the practical questions that come up in a hard week. Care from this office is for families in Sebastian County. This hospice program has served families since 1995. A family in Fort Smith can ask the office how care starts and what the team will do in the home. The Fort Smith team comes to the home rather than asking the family to manage the hard days alone. A family in Fort Smith can ask what the team handles at home and how a first visit is set.

I would like to give this company 5 stars but I can't. My wife is in the late stages of Alzheimer's. She has fallen a number of times & it turns out she was given 2 different blood pressure medicine. When I questioned it I was told they didn't order it. It was from before I signed her up. I still asked how come? Never did get an answer. The nurse assigned to my wife said nothing. The same nurse fills my wife's weekly pill box. It was never caught. I final straw happened tonight. My wife fell out of bed & hit her head. I called Heart Of Hospice & the gal on duty had the on call nurse. When she called (Sherri) she asked what was going on, so I told her. She said what did I want her to do? I responded check her out. She said again she didn't understand, did I want to take her to the hospital. I said I don't know I'm not a doctor. When she said the same thing again. I said never mind it's time for a change. This is the second time she has refused to come out & check her out after she hit her head. I guess this nurse thinks she's special. All I want is for her to do her job. I strongly advise against hiring Heart of Hospice. I previously complained about this nurse who refused to check for a concussion. This nurse appears to disregard company policies. Therefore, we will be switching to a different hospice provider beginning Monday morning.

The nurses that came to my house to care for my daughter during the week, wknd and after hours calls were A+. However, when hospice was first presented to us, one of the services offered that brought us some comfort was the fact that there was the option that if things got to bad at home and my daughter needed additional care then there was the option of additional care on hospice at Baptist where they had a space for hospice patients. On the day my daughter took a turn for the worse, the nurse that was tending to her suggested the option of using the option of going to Baptist. We understood the terms of needing a DNR in order to be cared for there and after an ambulance ride and arriving there we were told by someone from heart of hospice that they did not have staff and couldn't take my daughter in. Lots and lots more happened in those hours that we were there and when we needed and depended on you the most you failed my daughter and us. Comfort care you were not in her final hours and I pray that no one else will experience the hell my daughter went through as well as the family. Don't promote services that you can't guarantee. Angry, hell yes we are.

My Dad is currently dying of CJD my mother is getting billed 387 a month for a bed that is riddled with holes, nurses come out with devices and equipment notorious for false readings and then bill my moms insurance for 327 dollars a visit. Their response to anything is “more morphine” they just want to get him as high as they can until he dies. The hospital is suing my dying father over medical bills, she’s now taking out loans to be above water. The Hearts of Hospice have threatened to put a lien on my mother’s home, WHERE MY FATHER IS CURRENTLY DYING. They are aggressively targeting my mother for recompense before we’ve even had a chance to say goodbye to my dad. Their critical illness insurance is also slow playing us, we wanted to pay Heart of Hospice, but the money she NEEDED was delayed. Heart of Hospice isn’t a just name, because there isn’t a heart involved. Do not trust these people to look after someone you care about.
