About Hospice of the Hills

Hospice of the Hills is the Harrison office families turn to when hospice care needs to happen at home. A nurse, an aide, and a social worker visit the house. They help with comfort, medicines, and the practical questions that come up in a hard week. Care from this office is for families in Boone, Carroll, Newton, and Searcy counties. It is a community nonprofit. This hospice program has served families since 1993. When symptoms cannot be managed at home, families can ask about Hospice of the Hills Hospice House. A family in Harrison can ask the office how care starts and what the team will do in the home.

My aunt was there recently and the care they gave her was amazing. I was very impressed with the whole staff. They treated her great and kept her comfortable. The social worker came in and sat with my aunt and I while I visited. When I left I knew she was in great hands.

The Hospice of the Hills recently cared for my father who had a very painful type of terminal cancer. The staff was very compassionate, responsive to his changing conditions, and timely in administering medication. This allowed my family to focus on our final days with him, instead of managing medication and care taking activities. We are grateful and blessed for the support The Hospice of the Hills.

My mother-in-law was sent to this place which seemed very nice. It is a nice, clean facility with guest rooms for family and a nice selection of complementary snacks and coffees and teas. The nurses are friendly and available, but it seems like they were more concerned with extended my mother-in-laws (pricey) stay by feeding her pudding and ice cream than they were with her comfort while passing. She had a rash that we mentioned and even purchased OTC cream for when they said they would order some prescription powder. The next day when we asked if it had been applied, they still had not received it from the pharmacy (when they called it in a second time it was delivered immediately.) The opinions of different nurses on different shifts varied so much regarding the comfort and care of the patient that it feels some of the nurses were taking the easy way out versus a little more effort for more comfort of the patient. We eventually moved my mother-in-law back to her home and chose another hospice company. The nurse was clear and compassionate and directed us the way to best care for and comfort my mother-in-law in her last days.
