To Samantha and Beth — and the whole hospice team: My mom passed away two weeks ago today, and I still can’t believe I have to write this in the past tense. But I can write this part in the present tense, because what you two gave her never left. Samantha, you weren’t just her nurse. You were the person she trusted most in those final months — the one she let in when she was tired of being strong for everyone else. You showed up every week, sometimes three times, and you treated her like she was her own mother. She felt that. I felt that. Somewhere along the way, you stopped being “the hospice nurse” and became family, and I don’t think any of us ever said it out loud, but we all knew it. And God, did she give you hell. You’d prescribe something she didn’t want to swallow, and she’d hit you with that line — “let’s say we did, but didn’t.” She saved her sharpest sass for you, because she knew you’d take it and still show up the next week. That’s the kind of trust you can’t fake. She fought you on the medicine and loved you anyway, and you never once took it personally. Beth, you washed her, and helped her shower, and you made her feel human on the days her body was trying to convince her otherwise. She looked forward to both of you the way people look forward to a holiday. You were the highlight of her week — the banter, the stories, hearing about everything that happened, and she repaid you both by giving you absolute hell. She loved busting your chops, and you both took it like champs. Mom didn’t just tolerate your visits. She saved her stories for you. She saved her sass for you. And in the hardest stretch of her life, you gave her something she couldn’t get anywhere else — the feeling that she was still here, still funny, still worth showing up for. Two weeks without her and I keep catching myself thinking about what she’d say about all this. She’d probably tell me to waited for her to stop crying and go make somebody laugh. She’d say something filthy and hilarious, knowing her. So consider this me trying. Thank you for loving my mom when she needed it most. You didn’t just do a job. You held her hand through the hardest thing a person can go through, and you did it with grace, humor, and a whole lot of heart. This is five stars, no contest — and if the hospice runs a hundred-point scale, I’d find a way to give you a hundred and ten.

Accent Care at first was providing service at my mother’s home for I believe about 8 months. And then had to be placed at one nursing home until Medicaid was approved and then at Windsor woods for about a month until she passed. Beth was her aide that bathed my mother among other things at home and the last month at Windsor. Beth went way beyond her job lifting and maneuvering my mother. I couldn’t recommend her high enough. Beth was there as stated at a Windsor Woods keeping an eye on her and taking care of her. She gets 5 stars out of 5 Sam was her nurse at Aviata and she definitely was on top of things. She would call if something was of concern at that facility. She had my mom for about 3 months. She gets a 4.9 stars lol Lindsey was my mom’s nurse at Windsor and she only had my mom for a month but was very professional and returned calls and took time for lengthy conversations with me. Both Sam and Lindsey I would say are tops as RN’s. Thank you to all.
