COMPASSIONATE CARE CALLED AFTER MY MOM PASSED AWAY TO COME AND VISIT HER. The lack of care and compassion that my family experienced with this company is appalling. They sat in my home and promised us that they would keep my mother comfortable and rested during her transition. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN! My mother suffered the last 48 hours of her life and only until my father finally told the nurse this is NOT what you promised that she is NOT resting and continues to fidget did the nurse finally stay long enough to help get the medication correct and she was FINALLY able to rest. My mother passed away 6 hours later. The care and medication was done by myself or my dad - the nurses never stayed long enough and always seemed in a rush to leave. The communication was non-existent unless we called them. Even after comfort measures were put in place, no one called to see how my mom was doing and if she was resting. We were on our own through this process. It was absolutely heartbreaking. What has me so angry and upset is about 27 hours after my mom passed away, the nurse from Compassionate Care called my father and asked to come and see my mom! My dad informed her that his wife passed away the day before and did not understand how their records did not reflect this information. We were told by one of their representatives that their system does not update on the weekends. WHAT!? Are you kidding me? There was no dignity or compassion for my mother and then to call the day after to come and visit is just insulting. I do not recommend this company for hospice in Highlands County! Call Good Shepherd or Vitas for your loved one.
My Grandmother Suffered As my grandmother was nearing the end of her life, we were promised compassionate care—but what we experienced was anything but that. The nurses rarely stayed long, communication was poor, and most of the care ended up falling on my mom and grandfather!!!! They wouldn't take the time to make sure she was comfortable - most in a hurry to leave. My grandmother was restless and clearly stressed and SUFFERING until my poor desperate grandfather put his foot down with one of the nurses and demanded she do something. As if that wasn't bad enough, what truly shocked and upset us was receiving a call the day AFTER MY GRANDMA DIED(!!!!!!)—from a nurse asking to come check on her. My grandfather had to inform them she had died the day before....Their excuse? Their system doesn’t update on weekends. Someone please tell me how a HOSPICE company is working in a software that "doesn't update" with who has DIED. Seems like an important detail of the job, but that's just me. Where was the "compassionate care" when calling to ask about my dead grandma? If you know your system doesn't function properly wouldn't the compassionate care mentality make you contact the last nurse for an update? Wouldn't it make you have a company wide policy in place for making sure you don't call someone after their grandma dies???? Again maybe it's just me.... I DO NOT recommend this hospice company. If you’re in Highlands County, I strongly suggest looking into other options like Good Shepherd or Vitas so hopefully you can avoid a phone call after your loved one dies and actually have a nurse at their side when they do.
The nurses were kind and caring. When my husband passed, at home, a nurse came right out. She treated him with dignity and respect. She explained every step of the way. I had preplanned with a mortuary. She made the calls and set their arrival. She offered to stay, but I had family for support. If you need hospice, I can highly recommend this caring group.
