Ohio's Hospice - Dayton

Deeply grateful for the compassionate care my mother received here during the last five days of her life. The facility is beautiful, clean and peaceful, and the staff is wonderful. Thank you.

My grandfather spent the final weeks of his life at Dayton of Hospice, and unfortunately our family's experience was deeply disappointing. Rather than feeling supported during an incredibly difficult and emotional time, we were repeatedly pressured to move him to a nursing home because, in our view, his decline was not occurring quickly enough to meet the organization's expectations. These expectations seemed motivated solely by profit, despite Hospice claiming to be a nonprofit organization. Despite the fact that he was unable to care for himself and was clearly nearing the end of life, we felt as though his continued stay was being viewed as an inconvenience rather than an opportunity to provide compassionate care. It was made very obvious to us they wanted him gone, so they could bill for higher levels of service with a different patient's insurance provider, no doubt. What was most troubling was the apparent lack of empathy shown toward both my grandfather and our family. The frequent discussions about transferring him elsewhere created significant stress during a period when we should have been focused on spending meaningful time with him and each other. It often felt as though financial or administrative considerations were taking priority over patient care and family support. It was quite obvious that Hospice of Dayton had only their billing practices and profitability in mind. Additionally, communication from the staff was poor. When family members visited, nurses and other personnel were often distant and unresponsive, which only added to our sense of isolation during an already painful experience. I continue to believe strongly in the mission and importance of hospice care. Hospice can provide tremendous comfort and dignity to patients and families facing the end of life. However, based on our experience, Hospice of Dayton did not uphold those values, and I cannot recommend their services. Hospice of Dayton has abandoned their core principles in pursuit of profitability, remodeling their buildings, and continually landscaping their campus.

my grandpa fletcher green died at hospice when i was 5 or 6 he was in miami valley hospital they sent him to hospice but he was doing good being able to get out his bed sitting by the window. and then died when they sent him there and i was very young i didnt know nothing about dying i used to say mommy is papa going to die she used to be like no papa will be okay one night my mom got a call from my auntie we had to go to hospice and he was dead my mom came to me she was like you remember what we talked about about papa she said i said yes mommy she is crying soooo hard im like are you okay mommy she said yes but papa died . so i do not think you should let ANYBODY WHEN I SAY ANBODY I MEAN ANBODY DO NOT LET ANYBODY GO TO HOSPICE . AND EVERYBODY IN THERE WAS DEAD SO ITS GIVING THEY ARE GIVING THEM PEOPLE SOMETHING
